Thanks Becky

Thank you for the birthday wishes and the card. It was truly the best 79th I ever had. I am looking forward to the big eight-o net year. We had a great family party and Joan baked me a beautiful cake.

Great picture! You and my sister share the same age and almost the same birthday. Sue was born October 9th. By me being the youngest, my brother and sister used to kid me that they knew they were Hester's. but since I was the only one born in the hospital. they couldn't be sure of me.

Our first frost will probably arrive this week. Lots and Lots of leaves to deal with before the yard and garden will be put to rest for winter. I am already urging March to hurry here.   Becky

Becky:

I hope you escaped the storms that raked your area. The destruction in the mid west is unbelievable. By the time the storm hit the Ohio river at West Virginia it had dissipated and was relatively minor. I went out this morning and cut up a few branches from the trees in the backyard.

Regards Ben

Hi, Ben.
It is great to stay in touch!

My cousin, who is a  school superintendent near Champaign, Il., had his home destroyed. His family is fine and they have relocated close by. Some in county near to us weren't so lucky. Winter temperatures are on schedule this week with a low of 9 predicted for our overnight low. How has the season been for all of you?

Did your family have big get together over the holidays? We had 20 here for Thanksgiving , but only 16 for Christmas Eve. Lots of cooking and and wine. [smile] Our friend, Karan, would approve. I see her on face book. She is always cooking up a storm, and talking about a future cookbook. We still haven't taken down the 10 foot tree. Today is Sam's 77th, so decided to leave it up a couple more days. Glad my daughter, Susan, is here to help.

2014 will be full of new beginnings. Our son, Matt, and our oldest grandson, Jason, are going to become new Dad's in the spring. Matt's first. Jason has 2 little girls and is expecting a third. I'll bet Lily is even more of a little beauty and talking up a storm by now. Hope you get to see her often.

Hope you and your family have a Happy and Healthy New Year. [thumb]

[smile]Hi Beckey
As you say " it is great to stay in touch " and I always enjoy hearing from you.

We have had an extremely cold winter with many days below zero. The Ohio River was frozen over and schools were closed several times. Our lowest temperature was -13 degrees. For now the days are growing longer and things are beginning to  look up !

I would have  bet my socks that Karan would be into Facebook with both feet. She was a natural for that site.

We had some very nice get together during the holidays. We had 15 family members for Thanksgiving and 10 on Christmas eve. I will try to attach a picture  of the Thanksgiving group.

We are also looking forward to family additions soon. ( very soon )  Our granddaughter Anna went to the doctor Thursday and he said the next time he would see her she would be in the delivery room. Lily went with her and she had a melt down because the doctor would not let her listen to the baby's heartbeat. She is in her terrible twos.[bawl]

It's a boy and his name is Lucas David Cosper . I am attaching a picture of him in his current condition.[confused] We cannot wait to see him in person. Anna and Dave are building a new house and they were hoping it would be complete before Luke was born but the bad weather has delayed the construction until mid April. It's kind of sorry looking right now.

Glad to hear that you and Sam are OK and your family is growing.  Joan will be 80 in May and I will be 80 in October. Married 61 years and hanging in there.

Our son Richard and his wife Sally retired last year and are moving to St. Thomas in March. We wil not be seeing them as much , on the other hand, we my visit them for several months next winter.[cool]
Don't believe it  --- There is no place like West Virginia !

Becky -- Keep in Touch and

Have a great year ! [smile] Ben

Lily has a new baby brother  Lucas David Cosper -- one week old ! [smile]

lilylucas.jpg

He was born on a cold winter night -- He was naked, wet, hungry & homeless. He has no place to go but up.

His grandfather Tim, wrote a note for him to read when he is older -- it goes

Dear Lucas:

We want you to know when you were born your Mom, Dad and sister Lily were living in a one room  cabin with wood floors and no running water. Times were tough. Clothes were stacked from the floor to the low ceiling; two dormers helped bring light into the cabin but they were completely blocked with boxes full of footballs, basketballs, Lily’s toys and Mom’s shoes. A 5000 watt fake fireplace helped drive away the cold and brought some ambiance to the humble surroundings. Your little bed and swing were positioned on Mom’s side of the bed where she could keep a good eye on you. Every morning at 5:30 am your Dad pulled himself from the crowded bed and went to work. Somehow, someway everything worked out.

Right below the one room cabin was a large area full of new appliances – still in boxes. Refrigerator, oven, cooktop, generator and other stuff. All of these things were assembled and ready to go to your brand new home in Williamstown, West Virginia. Things are looking better – hopefully soon you will have your own room.

Love,

Grandpa and Grandma

CONGRATULATIONS, Grandpa and Grandpa! That picture of Lily and Lucas just melts your heart. What beautiful children!  Love the family group picture, Ben. We never seem to get everyone to stay still long enough when we do gather to get a picture of all of us. We

We are hoping this week spells the end of the winter weather. Finally will have some spring like days. The snow is still not all gone, but maybe by Monday. In between snow storms, Susan and I were able to attend the shower for Matt and Serena's expected new son. Matt's 2 younger sisters hosted it at one of their homes about 90 miles from us. We were so  glad the weather didn't break until that night when we got home.  Since my birthday was the next day, they had an early celebration for that as well. 71  last Sunday. Sam and I have been married 50 years, will be 51 in June. Our 2 new family additions should be here by then. ♥ I can't wait! That will bring the total of our immediate family to 27.

I'm looking forward to seeing the crocus bloom and sitting on the porch and listening to the spring peepers at the creek.  We have had tons of snow geese feeding in the fields around us for weeks. But also have robins in the yard and the birds are starting to sing their spring songs. I'm working on being more mobile for this gardening season, with any luck and some dedication. I think a new knee may be in the plans before the year is over.

Well I've turned the clocks forward, ( the ones I don't need a ladder for) so guess I better not make this night any shorter.  Here's to a new season filled with family and flowers. So glad to hear from you and share about our families. I will do my best to keep in touch. Hope you have time to do the same.  [smile]
