Well ------ It has been a long time !!!!  --- Where in the world have you been ?

Our new Lily has been blooming for about 6 weeks -- such joy.

The very hot weather has limited the time I have spent in the garden this year  --- bet it has been hot in your area as well.---- Regards Ben

It has been a hot summer, but we have had a good bit of rain as well, though August is dry. We can't really complain, compared to other folks around the country.

Thought of you yesterday when I heard about the earthquake. Hope all is well with you and yours. Hope you don't receive any problems with the coming hurricane. Looks like the east coast might get hammered. Our son is home from the Gulf so haven't had to worry about him for a couple of weeks. He is supposed to be leaving for Africa soon. Then I can start. Becky:

Our best wishes go out to you and your son. Will he be working on one of the off shore rigs ?

We were not home when the earthquake struck -- we were on vacation at Hilton Head Island. No visible damage when we got home except for crooked pictures. Our son, who lives in VA about 40mi from the epicenter had some damage to the brick work on his house. They also were in the path of Irene and have been without power for 2 days. I told him that he has no t been living properly -- he says that Washington DC is being punished for their ways and he is an unfortunate innocent that hap pend to be in the way.

As for our east coast vacation:

Irene looked like it was heading straight for us so we stayed packed and ready to go ! By midweek it started to turn north so we decided to stay.
The weather was beautiful all week, perfect for the beach! On Friday we got some of the feeder band squalls with heavy rain and high surf. By Saturday morning Irene was slightly north of us and the sun was out ! We headed home and had beautiful weather all the way !

There is much to be said for proper living.   ---- Ben

Ben you always make me smile! Glad you had a great vacation! I'd like to hear what your wife has to say about your "proper" living but you must be doing something right!

I hope by the time you are reading this your son has power back on. We have had our share of that and it can be a pain. The brick work though? If it was building a brick path we know you could fix that.

Matt is expecting to be on a fairly new ship that he was on recently in Mobile , Alabama and the Gulf. But the coast of Africa will be new to him. He is looking forward to it and the extra pay. I am sure Matt will be one of those who frames his first dollar and then some. Thrifty doesn't even begin to describe him. LOL I think I heard his baby sister say he had some kind of 12 year plan.  If his father and I had had "a 12 year plan well let me just point out that he is 18 years younger than his oldest sister.

Have a good week, Ben. Stay safe out there in this crazy world we live in these days. Becky
