How cute! Are you going to have another gardener in the family?   She is adorable, Ben.
Hope 2013 has been good to you and yours. I decided to do something a little different for me this summer. I joined a union. I am now a card carrying member of

THE PORCH SITTERS UNION OF AMERICA

                                                             Becky

Sam hasn't joined yet so he is still sitting in front of the tv.

Hi Becky

So nice to hear from you -- no one ever comes to the site anymore -- you know with facebook and all !

Think of it -- We had the origional facebookk before that "wet behind the ears" kid showed up!

I spent most of the summer repairing the damage caused by last years storm. We had to rebuil the gazebo because a large tree fell on it and the garden was an absolute mess!

Next year I hope to join your union "THE PORCH SITTERS UNION OF AMERICA " I hope the dues are reasonable !

We can have  some more conversations  on the swing. --- don't know about you but I have fond memories  of our past exchanges.

The lilies did well this year and I am looking forward to 2014 -- take care --- Ben

Greetings, Old Friend! How are you, Ben? Delighted to hear from you.

Mother Nature seems to have her own ideas but I don't always agree. Sorry to hear about the Gazebo and the storm damage.

It isn't uncommon for us to lose a tree or 2, around the edges of the yard and close to the creek . Last year's drought was brutal for the plants. I lost 3 large evergreens, that were 25 years old or older, a few smaller ones, and all but 1 of our arbor vitae.  We also lost a few of the old hard maples that had been planted in 1866. Having to rethink the landscape. That seems to be the life of a gardener.

Your lilies are beautiful! Especially the little one dressed in Purple. She is so cute! Our grandson and his wife are expecting a new baby next year. That will bring our total of great grandchildren to 4. I wish they lived closer to us. Three of our grandchildren live in Illinois, the rest in Georgia.

I've taken up "4 wheeling" this past year. [wink]  Have a red one to use in the house and a Nova Deluxe Cruiser in Grape Crush, I keep in the car. They don't work too well for gardening, [rolleyes] but I still do some. Perk is there is always a seat handy for breaks.

You inspired me to learn more way back then, Ben. I've spent many quiet times listening to "Out of Africa".

The Gazebo Outback is still the loveliest web site. Nothing else like it. Everything else seems so impersonal.

Face book had been a good way for me to keep in touch with my grand kids, but they have navigated to other sites. (Now it is a good place for recipes.)

I joined Pinterest last year sometime. Arm chair traveling.  Here is a link to my page:

http://www.pinterest.com/hesterredhen/boards/  So many beautiful garden pictures on Pinterest, but no interaction with the other gardeners. [frown]
I wonder if any of our friends from The Gazebo Outback are on it as well.

Do you remember the fireside chats on TV years ago? [idea] Guess we might have to start our own version, a kind of Virtual Porch Swing chat.  [smile]

Autumn is teasing us with some cooler weather and much needed rain this weekend. Time to start the fall clean up. Bet West Virginia is beautiful this season. Hope you get time to enjoy it.
